Big Sandy Valley Football Conference
BIG SANDY VALLEY FOOTBALL CONFERENCE
The Big Sandy Valley Football Conference is starting their 15th year. This conference consist of middle school teams in Eastern Kentucky. The BSVFC was started for two primary reasons. Schools in Floyd, Johnson and Martin Co. were having trouble scheduling games. The first year the league consisted of Adams, Allen, Allen Central, Betsy Lane, Wheelwright (South Floyd), Paintsville, Johnson County, Warfield and Inez. By forming the conference this gave each school an eight game schedule with a pre and post season grids. Over the years the league provided the two elements the originators (Dr. Chaffin and Michael (Dip) Stafford) hoped for, consistent schedules, and improved performance on the field.
Over the years teams have dropped out and others joined. One year the conference boosted 20 teams, covering from Morgan County to Belfry. This grid iron season the BSVFC consist of 12 teams. This years pre-season grid will be held at Breathitt Co. on August 23, starting at 10 a.m. the last game will kick off at 4 p.m. The Big Sandy Valley Football Conference will have their final pre-season meeting at the Paintsville Recreation Center on August 3, 6 p.m. to finalize schedules and pre-season games. All coaches from participating schools are required to attend.

On July 22, at 6 p.m. there will be an Adventure Tourism meeting, at the Paintsville Recreation Center addressing any outdoor activity you are interested in. Jeff Sizemore from our Big Sandy Add District will be conducting this meeting.

Thursday April 10 several children with the after school program at Paintsville elementary participated with Kentucky Dept of Fish and Wildlife and Ronnie Wells of the City Recreation Center, fishing for trout. The KDF&W had just stocked 600 trout for the children to enjoy catching. Fun was had by all on a beautiful Spring day in Paintsville.by

Kentucky Grouse Hunters Association 2008 Field Trials
The Kentucky Grouse Hunters will be housting a Fun Trial March 22nd in Johnson County. Anyone interested in participating needs to let us know by March 19th. We will have a class for 2yr. olds and under as well as an open class. Rues are very simple, 5 brids placed in the field, 20 mins. To locate birds, cost $20.00. The dog with the most birds in the shortest time will be the winner. Winners get a pat on the back. Food will be available
